Is linking Obama to Rod Blagojevich the same as linking Sarah Palin to Ted Stevens?

By Trends Follower • December 7, 2008 • Filed in: Blagojevich

blagojevich
Many in here pronounced which Palin had zero to do with Stevens.
Even yet it was settled which Stevens was a coach to Palin, people still confirmed which she had no ties to him.

Having pronounced that, shouldn’t people follow a same settlement with a Obama/Blagojevich issue?
Or is this usually ok to give passes usually where Republicans have been involved.

Thoughts?

You are 100% right. Hypocrisy at its best.

The Republicans are Saints.

I’m KIDDING with this post.

By JMB

By Jove, I think you’ve got it.

By cattledog

Yes… that is a good way of putting this in perspective. And you know what? Ted Stevens was much more influential in Palin’s campaign (although I think calling Stevens Palin’s “mentor” is a exaggeration) for her office than Blagojevich was in Obama’s presidential election.

Palin was in the political circle of Ted Stevens at times. Does that make her corrupt? Absolutely not.

Obama was in the political circle of Blagojevich at times.
Does that make him corrupt? Absolutely not.

Politics have dirty players and the clean ones have to play with the dirty ones from time to time. That’s life on a campaign trail.

By ProUSA2

Democrats most certainly DID link Sarah Palin to Ted Stevens, just as you just did.

So why are you complaining about others doing it to Barack Obama and Rod Blagojevich???

By D W1

How many passes should Obama? Ayers, Wright, Rezko ,
Blagojevich where does it end!

Democrats did indeed try to hang Stevens guilt on Palin. How does it feel with the shoe on the other foot?

By dpj5

Sure. And Obama should be lambasted for it just like Palin was. But he won’t….

By Coffee T

because dems are so hypocrite that they think that they can slam palin and we are not allowed to slam mobster obama !

I wish I could give YOU 10 points this morning. What a great example of Republican hypocrisy. When it fits their agenda they ignore the basic facts. Blagojevich is a criminal and needs to go to jail. The Feds have said uncategorically that Obama himself has no connection to this nonsense – and in fact refused to play Blagojevich’s game from the beginning. Blagojevich was never involved with Obama in any significant way. He was never on Obama’s campaign team, he never got on the stump for him, and he did nothing to try and help the guy get elected. But they’re both from Illinois so who needs to know anythng more? That makes Obama guilty. Of what? Even they don’t know. Vague accusations of dirty politics on his part is quite enough. Their desperation to bring Obama down before he even takes office has become pathetic.

Because Republicans are amazingly stupid. There was so much stuff to blast Palin for being a stupid tool. But it never occurred to me to blame Sarah Palin for what Ted Stevens did or didn’t do.

BTW, the transcripts are showing just the opposite of linking Obama with Blagojevich, that Blagojevich was angling for a cabinet post, which Obama could had easily done, but did not.

No passes given, none expected. As a politician you are hired to eventually be fired.

The situation would be the same if there were any evidence that Palin were auctioning off Ted’s seat if he was re-elected and then thrown in jail. But it is not. And so far, there is nothing connecting any wrong-doing on Obama’s behalf with Gov. B.

As for the mentorship, any politician that has been in office as long as Steven’s was has a lot to teach and people can learn from – both good and bad. It doesn’t necessarily mean the student follows the teacher’s guidance or philosophy to the letter or even at all. Scenario: do all of us do things the same way our parents did? Or do you learn from their successes and failures both personal, moral, and financial?

Republicans are so one sided. They force people to play their game.

By The Deal

Funny, I don’t remember reading about any Dem slams on Palin / Stevens. So, I don’t know what the above Reps are talking about. Quite frankly, I don’t recall the Dems spreading ANY rumors, it is fact or not fact for us. Or relevance might be a better word.

Reps. no one cares about you, we’re trying to make this country better, and your not.

By Finally, Bush is leaving!

Republicans are big fat hypocrites. This is nothing new.

By ladyshondra

talk about hypocrites, i think libs have a corner on the market. palin was crucified by the press and libs. she and her family. yet, no one is to question Obama about the numerous associations he has, they are all justified or excused.

democrats always get a pass. it is only a scandal IF it involves a republican. now that is what i call hypocritical. if the shoe fits….

By wyldfyr

Exactly. Just because a senator is corrupt doesn’t necessarily mean that the governor is corrupt and vice versa. In the case of Blagojevich, the prosecutor has stated that there is absolutely no evidence that Obama had anything to do with the case. In fact it was reported on NPR that the FBI tapes of Blagojevich’s phone conversations have the governor cussing and vowing not to appoint Obama’s first choice for a replacement because the Obama people won’t get involved in bribery. The haters always leave out important facts in their desperation to bring down Obama and thwart the will of the American people.

More “Guilt By Association”.

Unless some evidence develops, I think it’s unfair to link Obama with Blagojevich.

That’s not to say there wasn’t some involvement, but I’d like to see some evidence before I go accusing Obama of anything.

“Having said that, shouldn’t people follow the same pattern with the Obama/Blagojevich issue?”

Correct.

Obama said he never met with Blagojevitch. Axelrod said he did. Then the Obama camp said Axelrod “misspoke”.
Axelrod did NOT misspeak, and Obama lied today. He DID meet with Blagojevich to discuss his senate seat, and many reporters knew about it when it was happening. No complaints from the Obama camp when these stories came out. But that was before Blago was arrested:

If Obama isn’t involved in this, why did he lie today?

1) Ill. governor meeting with Obama today

By Carol Sowers Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at 10:39 a.m.

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago’s south side who co-chaired Obama’s presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It’s likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.
KHQA’s Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there’s a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.

2) Duckworth comments on consideration for Senate

QUINCY, IL — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

Obama met with Governor Rod Blagojevich earlier this week to discuss it. Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement. There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Junior to Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.

Duckworth made an appearance in Saturday’s Veterans’ parade in Quincy. We asked her about the possibility of filling Obama’s seat.

“The Governor’s office confirmed yesterday that he is considering me and I am deeply honored jus to be considered. I hope whoever is selected is someone who is willing to travel around the state and gets to know this wonderful state. I’m just honored to be considered,” Duckworth said.

The governor expects to make his decision before Christmas. Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

Blagojevich mum on possible successors to Obama
Chicago Tribune (IL) – Friday, October 31, 2008
Author: Rick Pearson and Monique Garcia, TRIBUNE REPORTERS

Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Thursday cited the potential for bad “karma” and avoided discussing potential Senate successors to Barack Obama should the Democratic nominee win the White House, but acknowledged he has a process in mind for making the most important appointment of his career.

“I just don’t want to jinx him and I don’t like the karma of me thinking that far ahead,” Blagojevich said of Obama ’s prospects in Tuesday’s election. The governor added, “We have had some discussions about a process which we’ll share … if all goes well.”
