Think about this…. the price of oil is actually staying the same. The value of the dollar is dropping super quick because of the deficit. So of course the dollar doesn’t buy as much oil. This means that a few years ago the price of oil was $50 a barrel. Now it’s $104 a barrel.

Hillary and Obama are going to resort to the old standby: raise oil taxes to discourage consumption.

All three candidates are all talk and no action on this issue … just like Bush.

The president cannot do anything about the price of oil or gas. We have come to the end of the American cheap gas gravytrain. Gas in my area is 3.03 per gallon, that is still cheaper than what I paid when I lived in Yokosuka back in 1978. Look at the bright side, maybe the poor will keep their rust buckets off the highway so the rest of us can drive with shorter commute times.

Well Obama wants to raise taxes on Gas so you’ll drive less. Isn’t that a good liberal solution? After all, all Liberals believe in taxes.

Ron Paul suggests we allow people to develop alternative energy sources – keep the government out of it.

The profit would be tremendous so people are really going to work hard to come up with alternatives that will be cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

When someone comes up with something that are those two things, we will no longer be dependent on foreign oil – especially if we can drill at home for the oil we need.

Obama wants to expand biofuels. GREAT idea – I mean, except for the fact that food prices will go through the ROOF, taxes will go up and the environment will suffer.

Obama or Hillary will drive gasoline prices higher. They both propose taxing oil companies and have government invest in alternate energy sources … a bondoggle. Democrats want higher gasoline prices, to force conservation and limit carbon emissions … I don’t think any of them would have a problem with $5 a gallon gasoline… and then blame the resulting economic collapse on … who else … Bush!
The biggest immediate help the government could do would be to mandate one blend of gasoline … instead of 43 different ones mandated by various states, counties and cities. This would take a lot of pressure off the limited refinery capacity we have.

As more corn and soy beans are used to make ethanol, the price of food will skyrocket, particularly in the 3d world. It won’t dent our dependance on oil, but it’ll surely make libs feel good. Hey, I have an idea. Until we come up with a viable alternative for oil, how about we drill for it everywhere we find it?

By M D

Only free market forces will create a solution.

You expect too much from government. Governments are not proactive. In fact the government seems to be more interested in corporate charity than helping our energy consumption addiction.

Why does the government need to mandate ethanol if it is a good idea? Ethanol mandates are a moral hazard. The poor have their food prices increased to support the SUV energy consumers and farmers.

A better solution already exists:
