We never did that, and the young troopers who came after us don’t today. “We” being the 101st Airborne… We did talk to one another on the way down, though. And we laughed a lot – parachuting is fun! The physical training the Army demanded of us was not fun, but that was how they did it then and how they do it now. Youse takes the good wit’ the bad, dude!
As far as I know they dont do it anymore. But here is Why the WWII soldiers yelled it…..
A 1939 western named GERONIMO, the inspiration it gave a US Army paratrooper, and the formation of a US Army paratrooper tradition were events that combined to transform a character in a now-forgotten movie into a household word. This is the story of the relationship between the 1939 Paramount movie, the WWII paratroopers, and the motivational yell, “Geronimo”.
Because they are about to enter Geronimo’s territory.
because they couldn’t yell holy sh*t
