You have one BIG problem with North Korea and the U.N. Its called CHINA. China is about the only ally North Korea has. Get China on board in dealing with North Korea then you can probably start getting some results. The way things are going now, don't hold your breath. The way North Korea is getting on is something akin to a spoiled child/brat/bully. Its like they are saying "gimme this or I will do that." Something has to be done yes but what. And when will China step up and say "enough is enough, North Korea, and start acting like a sensible adult" As it stands now China will veto anything that the U.N. comes up with. Frustrating ain't it ?
The U.N. is useless. It is exactly what is expected of them to do.

The UN lets the Israelis literally get away with murder ( invade and trash Lebanon and Gaza) with no action so why would anyone in their right mind expect them to care one whit about a missile that never even got up? The last time the UN did the USA's bidding they endorsed that fraudulent invasion into Iraq and when some ungrateful Iraqi or Mossad or whoever blew up the UN headquarters there, they left. The UN is a joke. Every year all the nations vote to tell the USA to lift the useless embargo on Cuba and every year only two nations vote to oppose it: yep, USA and Israel.

No, but I think China, Russia, Lybia and Vietnam wants diplomacy and tolerance. UN is a big joke. Take the human rights committee – it's comprised mainly of the world's biggest thugs. It's dumb to rely on the UN to do anything.
In Australia; South Australia, in particular, we have a series of advertisements currently running, which encourage insurance users to "unworry"; funnily enough with actions which I wouldn't recommend – dumb (and costly) things, like swinging around on the clothesline, flying small powered aircraft in offices (when people are in the vicinity) and things like saying and displaying, "My fish is bigger than yours", using Marlin as the bigger fish. All of those things and the way that the ads are produced, create untruths of their own advertisements – definitely worry!
You have hit the nail on the head with your first two words, "UN(un)-action". I believe, that is the definition and charter of the United Nations forum.
On the other side of the coin:- Some of the newspapers suggest that China and Russia are worried, because of their proximity to North Korea. They don't want current problems, to be expanded upon by Nth Korea, with their use of the current arsenal. Something which I have no problem accepting.
They both say that any addressing of issues there, needs to be done with consideration of that fact. The North Korean leadership, is not a normal leadership and I think that if anything ever starts anywhere, that country will be involved. I agree that something should be done, but no action now, probably means that a rogue nation will not totally spit the dummy, only work it around in it's mouth.
The UN has become a joke. You only have to look at how the UN is now adopting legislation that would make criticism of Islam forbidden. The UN is dominated by the Arab and Islamic nations which always unite and vote en masse.

edit: just to correct the person wrongly stating that Israel 'invaded' Lebanon. No, she did not. Israel asked the Lebanese government for years to STOP Hezbollah from using Lebanese territory to mount TERRORIST attacks ON Israeli civilians. Lebanon ignored these requests. So finally Israel had to act herself. Guess you'd far rather see yet more thousands of dead Israeli corpses courtesy of Hezbollah.
