How do I trim my dog’s nails without hurting her?
My dog ( a chihuahua ) has intensely prolonged nails since we am never means to cut them. I’ve taken her to a oldster as well as they have an intensely tough time too. She yelps, bites, wiggles, as well as she will go in to seizure. What should we do? At this indicate we unequivocally wish to get her declawed. The pick is to keep putting her to nap to get them cut (risky as well as expensive), or keep them prolonged as well as goal they do not get held in something as well as mangle her feet (even some-more expensive). What do we do ?

you could put a muzzle on her put her on her back in between you legs ( you on the floor) and get a dog dremel look at the link.
i know someone that had this problem and the dremel worked great.
Go to petmarts.
Did you know that walking a dog on sidewalks and streets helps file their nails? My sister never had to have her dogs nails trimmed because she took the dog for a short walk every morning and every evening. Go pay to have the nails trimmed again and try walking the dog daily on hard surfaces to help file the nails naturally.
Get a groomer to do it. They work on wiggly dogs for a living. If your dog is having an actual seizure, diagnosed by a Vet., you have bigger problems than a wiggly dog.
When the Vet. here does wiggly dog nails, the dogs get a light sedation and are never actually asleep. Not that expensive, not that risky. Declawing the dog would be risky.
My dog is a 6 year old Teacup Pomeranian so she’s really tiny. She does the same except instead of biting she scratches. I’m not sure it hurts them THAT much but maybe the pressure of the Nail Clipper is what might make her despise nail cutting. What helps us sometimes is resting our dog on a table covered with towels and we restrain her from clawing her way out without hurting her. It might help to not use to much power on restraining your dog. Also we use treats to satisfy her for awhile and while she’s eating we cut her nails. If all is not well, take your dog to another Vet.
Do Not Get Her DECLAWED… that is one of the worst things you could do to a dog. What you need to do is ask your vet for some medicine that will slightly sedate her and then ask them if you can hold her while they do it. Or ask your vet to show you how to do it. I work at a grooming shop and cutting the dogs nails should not hurt many little dogs are more scared of the clippers than anything. Another option you have is to dremmel her nails you can call around local grooming shops and get prices. Many dogs who hate clippers seem to do better with a dremmel but just be sure to warn them of her habits and how she squirms. Some shops will allow you to come back and hold your dog. Call around and see because long nails actually cause the dog pain because they cannot walk properly clipping them should be painless unless a quick is hit which will then make the nail bleed. Good luck.
If you ever walked your dog, you wouldn’t have such problem.
I stopped using clippers on my dogs’ nails quite awhile ago b/c it was just too much of a pain! I have one dog whose nails grow like weeds, even though she is regularly excecised (walked and jogged) on the asphalt when I go out!
Check out this site:
This lady’s dogs are amazing with the dremel! Do you see the picture of her dogs falling asleep while she does their nails! My dogs are not that patient, but with the help of one other person to keep the dog occupied while I dremel, I can do all four feet in less than half an hour (per dog).
You just have to get your dog used to the dremel first. Then slowly work up to actually dremeling the nails. It takes a couple of days, but like I said, it is SO much easier than clipping!!
Try to cut one nail, then give her a treat she loves. Or just try to get her to like the nail clippers you use.
Have you heard of a dremel? You can get them at Lowe’s or Home Depot. That’s what I use with my dog. It’s like filing the dogs nails only it’s a machine so it doesn’t take so long. Get a sandpaper type attachment for it and you’re good to go. It takes a while for them to get used to it, but it’s not painful and they do get used the vibration after a while. Good Luck!
Declawing is not an option for dogs. A Vet can put your dog under anaesthesia and cut the nails back. This would be necessary because the veins in her nails would likely be real long, too. Then you could follow Vet instructions on clipping her nails weekly, just a tiny bit, to avoid hitting the vein and to keep them from getting that long again. Once your dog learns that cutting her nails does not hurt her and she gets used to that being done, she will not be so reactive.
This could be very frustrating for you, for awhile. You might want to have a groomer do the first few nail cuttings after the Vet procedure and then start trying it yourself.
let your dog outside and let her run around on the cement especially on gravel paved places and parkin glots
this trims the dogs nails naturally
thats the way they were made
if you let her outside on these things more often she wont have long nails
Pet smart does mine dogs nails easily. You must be careful because the skin they have there you would not want to cut that. For 15.00 they get a bath, nails trimmed, anal cleaned.
